The purpose of this work is to reconstruct the topography, stream and river patterns, groundwater and pond levels, tidal and freshwater marsh development, and coastline of outer Cape Cod at various points in prehistory. A series of maps have been prepared which show the forementioned features from 12,000 B.P. and 500 B.P. This report will serve as a basis for National Park Service archeological studies involving excavation of pre-Colonial Indian artifacts on outer Cape Cod. Of particular concern is the location of freshwater sources and tidal flats/marshes, which would have provided a water and food base for Indian populations.
