Genetic differences in physiological tolerances of Amargosa pupfish (Cyprinodon nevadensis) populations

Evolution theory predicts more limited tolerance of temperature and oxygen variation for fish from an environment with a constant temperature than for those from variable habitats. Amargosa pupfish (Cyprinodon nevadensis) from the Death Valley area support this, with pupfish from a constant temperature spring having a narrower range of tolerances than those from the variable Amargosa River. This difference indicates genetic divergence since the isolation of these populations. Graphs show oxygen and temperature limitations.
