The Florida panther (Felis concolor coryi) is one of 27 described subspecies of puma that inhabit the western hemisphere. The few remaining Florida panthers (approximately 50) live in Everglades National Park, FL and the Big Cypress Swamp, FL. Physical differences distinguish the panthers found in the Big Cypress and Everglades. The authors conducted a comprehensive molecular genetic analysis of the separate groups to shed light on their demographic and phylogenetic history.
