The Geographic History of Quercus ajoensis

The authors reconstruct some of the history of populations of Ajo mountain oak, and investigate hybrid groups sharing some of the Ajo characteristics and some from a similar species in Yuma County. Fossil evidence has been found that an early form of Q. ajoensis existed in Washington state, and the article relates the changing climate to the geographic history of this species. It is considered a relict population in the Ajo Mountains. Brief bibliography, 14 figures.
