A section of Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Mount Davis and Davis Dam, was surveyed for water resources as part of a larger geohydrology survey of the recreation area. The studies locate areas of potential development of water supplies, investigating wells and springs, determining the chemical characteristics of the water sources, mapping (at 1:62,500), and studying the geologic features of the area and how they affect water movement and occurrence. The principal source of ground water in the area is the unconsolidated sedimentary rocks adjacent to Lake Mohave; the lake is the main source of recharge to the aquifer. The potential for surface-water development is almost non-existent except for the Colorado River. Flow in the ephemeral streams is meager, an average of about 30 acre feet per year from the largest drainage basin, and is extremely variable from year to year.
