This study is being done at the request of the National Park Service to investigate the source of water for Oak Spring with regard to the potential for contamination from Chisos Basin. Chisos Basin, which is about 1,000 feet higher in elevation than Oak Spring and is about two miles from the spring, is a majordeveloped area of the park. Development consists of a restaurant, motel and cottages, horse corral, and large campground.
