The bedrock of the damsite area is an unweathered, massive, and homogeneous granitic rock capable of supporting a dam of any practical size. As the site is in an area of strong seismic activity and near suspected active faults, the dam should be designed to withstand earthquakes of maximum intensity. The reservoir area is underlain by unconsolidated glaciofluvial deposits. Leakage is unlikely as high mountains of unpermeable and relatively undisturbed granitic rocks surround the reservoir. Construction materials available in the reservoir area are coarse and fine aggregate, impervious fill, and possibly riprap.
