This chapter in the guidebook for a geology field trip describes a route through the Redwood Creek basin, primarily through areas added to Redwood National Park in 1978. Specific stops are described that illustrate geology, geomorphology, and land use in the lower basin. The second stop shows differences in the effects of two timber harvesting methods: cable logging and tractor logging. Most of the lands now within Redwood National Park were tractor logged, leaving deeper skid depressions. Text for other stops discusses the Tall Trees Grove, rehabilitation work, a landslide, and several geologic features.
