This report outlines the support by Zion NP of the Bryce Canyon National Park fire program. Prescribed fire at Bryce Canyon was instrumental in leading the NPS post-moratorium return to burning, with safe and successful treatment early in the season, and the application of aerial ignition in the treatment of interior sections of the same unit in September. BRCA developed a Black sage monitoring type and installed 3 plots for this type in the East Creek burn unit. They monitored the burns, and located and collected pre-burn and post-burn data from all the plots in the burn unit. They installed 2 plots in the Podunk-Yovimpa 2 burn unit in the White fir/Mixed conifer monitoring type. This burn unit was slated for treatment in 2002. There were 6 previously installed transects in the Black sage monitoring type, to be assessed. No installations were scheduled for 2002.
