The overall goals of the Exit Glacier Visitor Experience and Resource Protection Project are based on the National Park Service mandate to balance visitor use with resource preservation: 1. Develop management strategies based on scientific information and public input. 2. Prevent unacceptable impacts from expected increases in visitation. 3. Allow for adaptive management that will monitor current practices, evaluate their effectiveness, and adjust for long-term goals. The Exit Glacier project involves planning (GMP amendment), natural resource inventories, and social science surveys. Separate funding sources exist for each discipline, and we have integrated the funding sources to meet our objectives. The portions of this proposal that fit best under the GMP amendment funding include: • Develop a public involvement strategy • Describe a potential range of visitor experiences and resource conditions • Prescribe management zones • Develop management alternatives • Prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in accordance with the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA)
