KEFJ received funds in 2000 to conduct a carrying capacity study at Exit Glacier under the Visitor Experience and Resource Protection framework. The purpose of the project was to plan for future management of the area so that we can provide a high quality visitor experience while protecting natural and cultural resources. Project objectives were to: 1. Determine the desired future resource conditions and visitor experiences. 2. Develop management strategies based on scientific information and public input to prevent unacceptable impacts from current and expected increases in visitation. 3. Conduct natural resource inventories to establish baseline data. These objectives were accomplished in full by the final year of funding in FY02. KEFJ staff completed natural resource inventories and developed management strategies based on desired future conditions. Social science data was collected and analyzed by staff at the University of Washington under a cooperative agreement. In 2002 we conducted surveys and inventories of corvids, amphibians, soundscape, streams, lichens, rare plants, exotic plants, and unique plant communities.
