Corvids are birds belonging to the family Corvidae, consisting of crows, ravens, magpies and jays. Highly intelligent, corvids have learned to associate human activity with obtaining food. Park managers require more information on the current numbers of corvids in relation to other avian species in the study area in order to identify the potential impacts from increasing visitor use and to make planning and management decisions. Expected increases in human activity at Exit Glacier can potentially attract corvids, which in turn could displace resident breeding songbirds and cause other ecosystem disruptions (Speiss 2001). We implemented a survey to collect baseline information on corvid distribution and abundance in the study area and in a control area. We also compared corvid numbers with numbers of other avian species, grouped by feeding guilds.
