Informal counts made from the Naiad by I. Martin and E.L. Martin found very few seals to be hauled out on ice in McCarty Fjord. The maximum count was 25 individuals on ice and in the water on 5/27/97. Counts on 6/6 and 6/7 revealed fewer than 10 seals on the ice. Throughout the month, ice has been small and thinly scattered through the northern portions of McCarty Fjord. Suitable ice for hauling out may be lacking.
