Lichens have been recognized as indicator species for air pollution because of their sensitivity to air quality and climate. An inventory of macrolichens in the Exit Glacier Visitor Experience and Resource Protection Plan study area will be conducted. This inventory will provide a comprehensive list of lichens found in the study area and estimate their abundance. Lichen species will be identified in various habitats in circular 0.3 ha plots. Abundance of epiphytic lichens will be identified using Forest Service Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) protocol. This information will provide a baseline of existing lichen conditions and can be used in development of a monitoring plan for the Exit Glacier area.
