With its rich diversity of vegetation, Rocky Mountain National Park served as an important seasonal source of economically and symbolically important plants for past Native American cultures that once occupied the Park and surrounding areas. However, the exact nature of the relationship between those plants and peoples remains unclear. With little archaeological evidence that identifies specific useful plant species, most information has been taken from the written historical documents of early Europeans and consultations with descendants of the historic tribes that occupied the Park. This information has been used to infer about proto-historic and historic plant use and importance withen the Park.
