Cahalane VH. 1959. A Biological survey of Katmai National Monument. Smithsonian Miscellaneous Collections. v. 138, no. 5. Publication 4376. Smithsonian Institution. Washington, D.C.
The research reported on in this book was done as a part of a natural history project, called the Katmai Project, started in 1953 (see Luntey, 1954). Field work took place 28 June-14 September 1953 and 29 June-5 September 1954. The book is divided into four sections: introduction, vegetation, birds, and mammals. Plant specimens collected included 65 families, 155 genera, and 273 species. Annotated lists are provided for plant, bird, and mammal species. The Katmai Project added 37 species of birds, bringing the Katmai total to 117.
