Distribution and Density of Bald Eagle Nests, Katmai National Park, 1975

Troyer W. 1975. Distribution and Density of Bald Eagle Nests, Katmai National Park, 1975. Natural Resources Survey and Inventory Report. AR 75/04. National Park Service Alaska Region

This report provides the results of an aerial bald eagle nesting survey conducted in the Katmai area in May 1975. Of the 90 active nests tabulated, 55 were located within the Monument boundary. Eighty-one adults and 11 juveniles were counted in addition to the 90 incubating eagles. The low juvenile ratio was similar to that found in 1974; this could be due to the coloring of their plummage which is less visible than that of the adult, or it could be that juveniles congregate in other areas during the May period.
