Brown Bear Behavior at Brooks River 1991: Final Report

This report summarizes field observations made along Brooks River and Margot Creek during the months of June -October, 1991. Objectives for the field season included: 1. Monitor bear use of Brooks River during June-July and Sept.-Oct. to collect data on: a. availability of salmon as measured by fishing rate from comparison with rates recorded in previous years b. presence of individual bears identified in other years, seasons, and locations c. diurnal and seasonal patterns of bear use and of human use d. seasonal rates of noise occurrence for comparison with seasonal bear use and with rates reported in previous years 2. Monitor bear use at Margot Creek during August for the above information, except for 1 d., as a control area aginst Brooks River, and identify presence of bears from Brooks.
