Hunting on the Alaska Peninsula

Two small planes skim low over the tundra, cruising the rolling hills below until a lone brown bear is spotted. The bear is a large male that has just come off the snow-laden ridge of an active volcano upon which he made his winter den. As the aircrafts apporach, he attempts to hide by slipping into the questionable cover of a leafless alder patch. However, his characteristic, zipper-like tracks through the late spring snow have led the pilots to their quarry. Less than a quarter of a mile from the last snow patch, they find him and break the bear from his cover, sending him running across the brown, spongy tundra.
