Age Determination of a Brooks Camp Cabin Ruin, Katmai National Park and Preserve

Ahlstrand GM. 1988. Age Determination of a Brooks Camp Cabin Ruin, Katmai National Park and Preserve. Natural resources report. AR-88/09. US National Park Service. Anchorage, AK

Dendrochronological methods were used to determine the terminal date of log specimens obtained from two cabin ruins located at Brooks Camp, Katmai National Park. Manual and computer cross dating techniques confirmed that specimens from one cabin were cut after mid-August 1931 and before mid-May 1932. One specimen from the second cabin was cut after 1933, another in 1935, and the remainder in 1936, suggesting that the structure was completed no earlier than the summer of 1936.
