Benthic Eelgrass (Zostera marina) Survey in Horseshoe Bay, Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Crandall E and Fong D. 2000. Benthic Eelgrass (Zostera marina) Survey in Horseshoe Bay, Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Census survey of eelgrass (Zostera marina)in Horseshoe Bay, California which is part of the GGNRA. Monitoring the eelgrass' local population is necessary due to possible management actions (sandy beach restoration, Coast Guard dredging) in the vicinity. Plants were counted, length of individual plants measured and their depth relative from surface at mean lower low water. Observations were made regarding extent of epiphytes and reproductive state indicated by presence and absence of seeds. Survey data were compared to those of Kitting (1998) and may be compared to future studies.
