The U.S. Geological Survey California Department of Fish and Game, Inland Fisheries,cooperated to conduct a study in 1965 and 1966 to determine the possible contribution of heavy metals to striped bass mortalities in the Caruinez Strait-Suisun Bay area in California. Mortalities occurred May-July in the 20 to 25 years previous to the study.Variations appeared, however, in the annual death rate. Sampling was done at 17 sites that where industrial effluent was in the general area or a domestic outflow was located nearby.
