Exit Glacier is the only portion of the specatular Harding Icefield easily accessible by land. With the creation of the Kenai Fjords National Park, the glacier is expected to become one of the main tourist attractions in Southcentral Alaska. Dispite major expenditures, access to the Glacier continues to be seasonal. Over the past fifteen years, a dedicated group of volunteers, mostly from Seward, has gradually commanded sufficient funds and manpower to carve seven miles of virgin roadup the Resurrection River floodplain. Two major bridges were recently installed. However, the road is still subject to annual washouts and is inaccessible during much of the tourist season. [exerpt from report]
