The geology of the Pontiac Pit archeological site, located in the upper valley of the Colorado River in Rocky Mountain National Park, was studied in support of archeological project ROMO 160 supervised by James W. Mueller and Terri L. Liestman of the National Park Service. The purpose of the study was to determine the age and origin of the stratigraphic units present and the nature of the soil developed at the Pontiac Pit site.
