Mountain goats (Oreamnos americanus) at the Walton Goat Lick in Glacier National Park and on adjacent national forest land were monitored June through August of 2002, with a total of 12 surveys conducted. Goats were counted every 10 minutes and recorded on data forms. Boats, trains, and disturbances were also recorded. Mountain goats were observed at one or both licks during each of the 12 surveys. The maximum number of goats observed in the entire Walton Goat Lick study area during one observation day was 24. The highest number of mountain goats observed during one 10-minute count in the entire Walton Goat Lick study area was 23. Ten boats, 15 trains, and 5 disturbances were recorded.
