Raptor populations inventory - bald eagles

Putera J. 1999. Raptor populations inventory - bald eagles. Port Alsworth, AK

A bald eagle survey protocol specific to LACL was developed and implemented in 1999. Intensive surveys to locate new nests and check the status of existing nests will be conducted in 3 survey areas on a yearly rotational basis. This year, intensive surveys of all suitable shoreline habitat were conducted for Lake Clark and associated river and creek drainages, including the Tanalian, Tazimina, Chulitna, Kijik, and Tlikakila Rivers, and Current and Tommy Creeks and along the entire coastline and associated drainages including Glacier Creek and Red, Johnson, Tuxedni, and Crescent Rivers. Intensive surveys were not conducted for interior lakes and rivers, however know nests were checked for occupancy. Late productivity surveys were conducted only for nests that were occupied or active during the early occupancy survey.
