The three study objectives are: 1. Locate and map all major spawning aggregations, including those in glacial regions 2. Determine basic characteristics of spawning habitat 3. Determine the distribution of private land uses and subsistence/sport use locations in relation to salmon spawning habitat During 2001, sockeye salmon spawning aggregations will be identified in glacial regions using radio telemetry; spawning habitat data will be collected; and initial data analysis will occur. We will track radio-tagged fish by boat and aircraft to determine adult salmon migration paths and locate all major spawning groups. Sightings will be confirmed in the field, and data collected to characterize specific habitat parameters critical to spawning aggregations. During 2002, spawning locations will be revisited, if needed, to collect additional data on spawning habitat; data analysis and GIS mapping of salmon habitat and subsistence/sport fishing locations will be completed; and a final report will be prepared.
