Effects on pinniped populations of marine climate variablity are investigated. Recovery of pinniped populations since the implementation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act is also assessed based on long-term monitoring surveys conducted at South Farallon Islands and Point Reyes Peninsula between 1973 and 1997. Implementation of MMPA has resulted in partial to full recovery of all pinniped species except for Stellar sea lion.
