A final report and data synthesis. The study was designed to monitor the bioaccumulation of seven metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, PB, Zn) in the whole body tissue of Mytilus edulis that were transplanted to three sites in Salem Sound and maintained there for 61 days. In order to better interpret the results of this transplant experiment, mussels from two local populations (on Coney Island and Halfway Rock) were also sampled and analyzed. Samples were taken concurrently for the measurement of organic pollutant bioaccumulation, but have been archived for analysis at some later date. Due to an inconsistency in the data set generated for one of the metals (Pb) and the loss of 2 of the 3 deployed mussle racks during Hurricane Gloria, results are presented on six metals and a single transplant site.
