The geomorphic history of an emergent Holocene reef along the northern coast of Guam in the Mariana Islands is reconstructed on the basis of facies relationships and radiometric dating. The reconstruction focuses on two sea level stands, one at the time of maxium sea level transgression during the Holocene about 3000 years B.P. and a second at the present sea level stand (a regression of about 2m from the Holocene high). These emergent reefs are of particular interest, first because they represent the highest elevations ( > + 4.0m) found on the island and secondly because they reveal a peculiar facies relationship of a well-preserved massive algal ridge. Geomorphic evidence is presented that indicates emergence of Guam's Holocene reef resulted from tectonic as well as euastatic events.
