A geophysical survey of Lassen Known Geothermal Resource Area (KGRA) was done during the summer of 1979. The Lassen KGRA covers around 324 square km and is located immediately south of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Surveyed physical characteristics were gravity, audiomagnetotellurics (AMT), and magnetotellurics (MT). There are complicated changes in alteration, porosity, permeability, and other aspects affecting the electrical conductivity of the volcanics. There appears to be low resistivity in the KGRA, also supported by the AMT. Two major areas of low resistivity resulting from the AMT are Childs Meadows and another south and north of Willow Lake. The low resistivity correlates with low relative voltages on the telluric traverses and low to intermediate MT resistivity values; they do not coincide with changes in topography or lithology.
