Environmental Assessment of various options to protect the Jamestown Island shoreline from erosion. COLO proposes to develop and implement erosion control measures that would stablize eroding shorelines at Jamestown Island and the Colonial Parkway along the James River. Many portions along the shoreline have eroded continuously and are starting to, or have already, destroyed important pre-colonial native American and Colonial period archeological sites. This enviromental assessment evaluates the alternatives to shoreline protecion with the following objectives: 1. Protect historic and pre-historic archeological sites 2. Protect, maintain, enhance and/or create wetland habitat 3. Manage upland runoff and groundwater flow through the maintenance of vegetated wetland fringes. 4. Minimize potential secondary impacts to downdrift shores through a reduction in the sand supply or the encroachment of structures onto subaqueous land and wetlands. 5. Solutions for shoreline protection should not interfere with historical interpretation
