The population dynamics and nutritional carrying capacity of Axix deer on Kalaupapa National Historic Park , Molokai , Hawaii
Wright G. 1999. The population dynamics and nutritional carrying capacity of Axix deer on Kalaupapa National Historic Park , Molokai , Hawaii. Idaho Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit
Objectives of the study: 1) Describe daily and seasonal movement patterns of defined segments of the deer population on the pennisula,2) attempt to obtain an accurate census of deer numbers 3) develop a nutritionally-based carrying capacity model for the pennisula that incorporates deer population numbers and dyanmics, 4) Categorize the type, relative quantity and digestibility of the different forages consumed and 5) describe demographic characteristics of the axis deer at Kalaupapa, including where possible, age of first reproduction, average number of young produced/year, anfd estimates of the physiological condition of the deer.
