Giant Sequoia Ecology: Fire and Reproduction

Harvey HT, Shellhammer HS, Stecker RE. 1980. Giant Sequoia Ecology: Fire and Reproduction. National Park Service Scientific Monograph Series. No. 12. National Park Service. Washington, D.C.

This study looks at the role of fire, wildlife and other disturbance factors that affect giant sequoia seed distribution, germination and seedling survival in the mixed-conifer forest of the Sierra Nevada. Four study areas were established in the Redwood Mountain Grove in Kings Canyon National Park and studied from 1964-1975. The book includes maps and photographs of the study area, tables, and graphs. An alphabetic listing of flowering plants in the giant sequoia regeneration plots and listing of insects associated with giant sequoias are in the appendix.
