The Giant Sequoia of the Sierra Nevada
Hartesveldt RJ, Harvey HT, Shelhammer HS, Stecker RE. 1975. The Giant Sequoia of the Sierra Nevada. National Park Service Scientific Monograph Series. National Park Service. Washington, D.C.
This book is an effort to present an accurate and up-to-date account of the giant sequoia and to correct much of the error and inconsistency which has pervaded the literature since western/European discovery of the species in 1852. Natural history topics of the giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) include human interest in giant sequoias, stages of sequoia growth, distribution of giant sequoias, life history, ecological concepts, sequoia relationships with other flora/fauna, man, fire, and the future. Sequoia and Kings Canyon is mentioned extensively in the chapter on distribution.
