Appendix A : The Birds of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area - An Annotated Checklist
Larue CT, Spence JR, Grahame JD. 2002. Appendix A : The Birds of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area - An Annotated Checklist. Flagstaff, AZ
This annotated checklist is based on ca. 4,000 bird records maintained in an Access database in the Division of Resource Management, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (GLCA), as well as numerous studies, most recently a two-year inventory program funded by the NPS Inventory & Monitoring Program, WASO. Of the 310 species reported here, four are exotic (house sparrow, European starling, rock dove, chukar), two are escapees (budgengar, ring-necked pheasant), two are re-introduced natives (California condor, wild turkey), and 303 are indigenous. Many people have helped over the years to make this checklist possible. In addition to the many observers that have filled out wildlife observation cards going back to 1962, additional data from the original survey reports was also included (M., Behle and Higgins 1959; literature citations can be found in the final report). We would like to thank the following people for their extensive support, bird observations and advice over the years: Joe Alston, Ben and Katie Bobowski, Mike Britten, Bryan Brown, Nikolle Brown, Lara Dickson, Chris Florian, Christine Goetze, Tom Haberle, Brent Hetzler, Jennifer Holmes, Jeanette Muller, Jon Nelson, Clive Pinnock, Brenda Russell, Mark Sogge, Larry Stevens, Charles van Riper III, Dave Willey, Bill Wolverton, Becky Zurcher, as well as all the other visitors and residents of the region that have turned in wildlife cards. This checklist is being made available' for use until the final report has been completed.
