The Permanent Committee on GIS Infrastructure for Asia and the Pacific (PCGIAP), a regional forum of national mapping organizations (NMO) in the region, promotes communication, cooperation, coordination, and collaboration among NMOs in order to support Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) development at national, regional and global levels. PCGIAP was established based on the recommendation of the United Nations Regional Cartographic Conferences for Asia and the Pacific (UNRCC-AP) in 1995. Although PCGIAP is not part of the UN organization, it reports to the UNRCC-AP and is complementing UNRCC-AP as its defacto operational body. In this report, the outline of PCGIAP is introduced focusing on its role as a regional body.
