From spring 1990 through fall 1998, researchers studied a population of California spotted owls in northeastern California. The primary goal of this study was to estimate demographic parameters (birth and death rates) in order to compute the trend of the owl population. Study sites included one site in Lassen Volcanic National Park. The results of this study suggest that, in the southern Cascade/northern Sierra Nevada region, additional efforts need to be expended to preserve and restore spotted owl habitat.
