Direct from publication, "In 1986 through 1987, we conducted surveys to identify and map Significant Avian Resources (SAR) in the Mill and Deer Creek drainages of northern California. We placed emphasis on raptorial and other bird species of special management concern to state and federal agencies. Each SAR was identified by first compiling published and unpublished information on all significant avian species that could potentially occur in the area, reviewing the natural history requirements of these species, and then conducting aerial and ground surveys for these birds throughout both drainages."
