The goal of the bear management plan is to restore and perpetuate the natural distribution, ecology and behavior of black bears free of human influences. Bear management objectives include, to restore and maintain the endemic black bear population by eliminating the availability of human food sources. To provide for the safety of park visitors and to provide opportunities for visitors to understand, observe and appreciate the black bear in its natural environment with a minimum of interference. To achieve the management objectives five elements will be implemented. Research of black bear population dynamics, ecology and monitoring of human-bear relationships, the removal of artificial food sources, public and employee education, enforcement of regulations regarding to feeding and proper food storage, and control of problem bears.
