From the Introduction: "This is an annual summary of Redwood National Park Fish and Wildlife Branch monitoring activities in the Redwood Creek estuary for the calendar year 1997. The purpose of the study is to monitor utilization of the estuary by fish and breaching incidents." Fish were seined with a beach seine net. For the salmonid species, a blue mark was applied to the upper or lower caudal fin or anal fin using a Panjet needleless injector. Fork length measurements were done in conjunction with the fish marking. The Peterson mark recapture method was used to estimate juvenile salmonid fish numbers in the Redwood Creek embayment. Sections of the report include Study Location, Methods, Water Quality Monitoring, Estuary Water Levels, Results, and Discussion. The results indicate the fish species present (4 salmonid species, 8 other species), population estimates, and growth estimates. A map of the study area and graphs of water temperature and water levels are included.
