This report covers the first year of the avian inventory and monitoring program at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The program is designed to collect information important to management decisions. Locations this first year were mostly riparian habitats in a number of areas, with some montane scrub on the Kaiparowits Plateau, and the report summarizes activities at each site. The survey found nine bird species previously unrecorded in the recreation area, and researchers conducted a five-hour migrant raptor count. One appendix lists the 232 species recorded during this effort (with an asterisk for confirmed breeding), and another is a new draft field checklist of recreation area birds, with status, habitat, and seasonal occurrence. Data on such aspects as distribution and abundance are being entered into databases, and field work is continuing.
