To compliment an ongoing bat natural history and habitat modeling research effort in the Ridge and Valley and Cumberland Plateau physiographic regions in northwest Georgia with emphasis on the endangered gray bat (Myotis grisescens), we conducted a preliminary acoustical, mist-netting and harp-trap survey of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. Our overall project objectives were as follows: 1) to document bat species assemblage and foraging habitat use in the park complex; 2) to quantify potential value of park caves as bat hibernacula; 3) to use endangered gray bat presence data for further validation of Johnson’s (2002) habitat model; 4) and to provide additional presence and absence data on bats in northwest Georgia to facilitate an understanding of factors related to bat species habitat partitioning.
