Inventory of amphibians and reptiles at Hovenweep National Monument, 2001-2003 final report
Persons TB and Nowak EM. 2004. Inventory of amphibians and reptiles at Hovenweep National Monument, 2001-2003 final report. USGS Southwest Biological Science Center. Flagstaff, AZ
This final report describes the results of the NCPN-sponsored herpetofauna inventory conducted at Hovenweep National Monument during 2001 and 2002. Project goals were to provide a baseline inventory of amphibians and reptiles in major habitats; identify park-specific species of special concerns; and to provide recommendations for use in development of an effective monitoring program. All six units that comprise the Monument were surveyed using time-area constrained searches (TACS), nighttime road driving, and opportunistic observations. Some voucher specimens were taken, as well as photographic vouchers. Fifteen species of amphibians and reptiles were documented. Details of abundance, habitat association, seasonal activity, and occurrence at the different units can be found in Appendix B.
