Excerpts from the report: "The Redwood Creek winter spawning and carcass survey is a long-term monitoring project. Although in recent years survey effort has decreased, the surveys determine presence or absence of adult salmonids and redds in index streams, timing of runs, distribution of spawning salmonids within the streams and any migrational barriers, size and sex ratio of returning spawners, and obtain information on redds characteristics. The three creeks surveyed for the 1998-99 spawning season were Lost Man Creek, Bridge Creek and Prairie Creek in Redwood National and State Parks. While walking upstream,the surveyors visually inspect the stream for live salmonid spawners, carcasses, and redds. Survey conditions are recorded: water visibility, estimated stream flow, and water and air temperatures." Results are presented and discussed for each creek. The appendix includes the results from the surveys conducted on Prairie Creek, entitled "Coho Salmon Survival in Northern California Streams of Varying Habitat Quality Interim Report" (Duffy et al.).
