Preliminary Assessment of Grazing on Water Resources at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

This preliminary study, carried out to assess the potential effects of grazing on ponds in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area showed that the local grazing index defined for this work was highly correlated with some of the water parameters. A Speannan coefficient was high for the relation between this index and turbidity (0.64), fecal coliform concentration (0.7638), total phosphorus concentration (0.8729), total suspended solids concentration (0.9276). These results reveal three points: first, grazing has an effect on water resources like ponds in the desert, secondly the local grazing index defined for this work is an indicator of grazing density around a pond and finally some these water parameters that were waste water quality parameters assessed the water status of a pond.
