Contains summary of four spawner surveys on Lost Man Creek on December 8, 1999, January 6, 2000, February 9, 2000 and April 5, 2000. Chinook and Coho Salmon as well as Pacific Lamprey (Entosphenus tridentatus) were counted. Redds were noted as single or superimposed/adjoining and measured. Prairie Creek spawner surveys by HSU fish co-op are summarized in 3 tables, more detail on these surveys is in a separate report. Excerpts: "The Redwood Creek winter spawning and carcass survey is a long-term monitoring project [conducted by Redwood National and State Parks], which began in the early 1980's. The survey is used to determine presence or absence of adult salmonids in index streams, to determine timing of runs, distribution of spawning salmonids within the streams and any migrational barriers, size and sex ratio of returning spawners, and obtain information on redds characteristics. The creeks surveyed were Lost Man Creek and Prairie Creek for the 1999-2000 spawning season. While walking upstream, the surveyors visually inspect the stream for live salmonid spawners, carcasses, and redds. Survey conditions: water visibility, estimated stream flow, and water and air temperature are recorded. The location of each fish, carcass, and redds are recorded along with other pertinent information on data sheets." A total of 15 live salmonids, 12 salmonid carcasses, and 19 redds were found in Lost Man Creek. Prairie Creek was surveyed by Humboldt State University Fisheries Department graduate students and technicians. Results are presented in tables and graphs.
