The protection of Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), our national symbol, and their habitat is a high resource management priority in Glacier National Park (GNP). Bald Eagles are listed as a Threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (1973), and improving their population status is a specific goal listed in GNP's Annual Performance Plan formulated to meet the requirements of the Government Performance and Results Act (1993). Viewing Bald Eagles is also a source of enjoyment and education for many park visitors. Bald Eagles have been impacted in the park by habitat manipulation, fire suppression, introduction of non-native fish species, and human disturbance at nest, forage, roost and wintering areas.
