Coho salmon spawner surveys were conducted weekly between October 30, 2000 and February 2, 2001 on Lagunitas Creek. Surveys were also done on San Geronimo Creek starting December 7, 2000 and on Devil;s Gulch starting January 11, 2001. The majority of coho observations and redd construction on Lagunitas Creek was in January. 119 redds and 118 coho were observed in Lagunitas Creek, 56 redds and 76 coho were observed in tributaries of San Geronimo Creek. Fin and muscle samples were taken from 15 of 33 carcasses found in the three creeks. It was concluded that the 2000-2001 spawning run was the same size as the previous year but not as strong as the runs of 1996-1997 and 1997-1998. It was also concluded that the 2000-2001 mitigation flows were adequate for fish passage but did not encourage coho to swim upstream.
