A 1965 pedologic study in the 15 km (super 2) - area exposed by retreat of the Casement Glacier in the Muir Inlet region, provides data for illustrating the changes which the disorganized assemblage of glacial parent material underwent to become soils with podzol genetic characters. Emphasis is on soils colonized by alder. It was found that soil formation and development is not solely a function of time. The absence of podzols in the alder forest and their presence in conifer forest tend to indicate a mutual podzol-conifer relationship. Thus, beside time, the biota is another variable which is not constant throughout the recessional sequence. DLC, Wall.
